Burberry's current Creative Director, Riccardo Tisci, has embarked on a distinctive creative journey that diverges significantly from the brand's founder, Thomas Burberry. The Burberry brand originally originated as a maker of protective workwear and gradually transformed into a fashion destination. Under Tisci's leadership, he has artfully melded the concept of a boutique with elements of streetwear, effectively capturing the attention of a younger demographic. Tisci is renowned for his innovative and subversive approach to craftsmanship, unapologetically embracing non-conformity as a core principle. Moreover, he stands out as one of the pioneering designers who boldly experimented with the concept of gender fluidity in fashion. Through these highly personalized and visionary adaptations, Tisci has succeeded in rejuvenating and redefining the brand's identity and character.

“Tisci is known as an artisan, creating exquisite womenswear, characterised by workmanship and gothic beauty. He offers artfully made couture with an urban, contemporary edge, but manages never to alienate older customers” (Ella Alexandria, 2018).

Tisci often pays homage to 1970s British punk in his collections, featuring dark leather, silver accents, and iconic red plaid. A standout was his collaboration with Vivienne Westwood, perfectly capturing British punk's essence with a touch of his dark and subversive style.

In the Spring 2021 collection, Tisci made a rare venture into denim, primarily using dark wash denim in half-and-half trench coats. This striking contrast created a fisherman's overalls theme. Denim was also integrated into oversized boyfriend-cut jeans beneath the trenches. Tisci transformed denim from everyday wear to an exclusive material through his innovative designs and prestigious brand name.
